Introduction

The world is facing many challenges. If you are a nonprofit organization with an innovative solution to these problems, why not apply for a grant? Below are some opportunities for nonprofits:

Creating a Healthy Food System for All

The Annenberg Foundation is dedicated to improving our world by supporting philanthropic initiatives that create positive change. The foundation works with nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, and other grantmakers to identify and fund projects that have a lasting impact on society.

The Creating A Healthy Food System For All initiative aims to create healthy food systems by addressing the root causes of hunger and malnutrition around the world. This initiative has three main goals: 1) increase access to quality food; 2) improve dietary habits through education; and 3) empower individuals through training programs so they can support their own communities.

Society has made great strides in recent years towards ending hunger and malnutrition around the world.  However, despite these gains, roughly 1 in 9 people globally still do not have enough food to eat.

While the world has made great strides in recent years towards ending hunger and malnutrition around the world, it is still a problem that cannot be ignored. Globally, roughly 1 in 9 people do not have enough food to eat.

This issue is not new: In 2015 alone there were 815 million people who were undernourished–that’s about one out of every nine people on Earth! While this number represents a significant decrease from its peak of over 1 billion in 2000, it’s still unacceptable that so many people are going hungry every day.

Climate Action & Poverty Reduction

Climate change is a global threat that has a disproportionate impact on the world’s poorest. It is also a major threat to global food security, since climate change can affect crop yields and water availability.

For example, rising temperatures have led to severe droughts in parts of Africa and Asia over the past decade, which have caused widespread crop failures and food shortages–which in turn lead to higher prices for staple foods like maize (corn), rice and wheat. These price spikes cause further hardship for people living below the poverty line who spend up to 60% of their income on food purchases

Advancing Lifesaving Medical Technologies

Advancing lifesaving medical technologies is one of the most important areas of research today. The discovery of new treatments, vaccines and cures can save lives and improve the quality of life for millions around the world.

Here are some examples of projects that might be funded:

  • Developing gene editing techniques to treat diseases such as sickle cell anemia and cystic fibrosis;
  • Immunotherapies that use antibodies engineered to target cancer cells; or
  • Developing new therapies based on stem cells taken from patients’ own bodies (also known as autologous).

Advances in medical technology, such as immunotherapy and gene editing, can help us overcome some of the biggest challenges facing humanity today — including cancer and HIV/AIDS — but it requires a significant investment in research and development (R&D).

The NIH is the nation’s medical research agency that supports basic science across all fields of health. The National Cancer Institute (NCI) conducts research on cancer prevention, detection, diagnosis treatment and care delivery through its network of over 30 centers across the country that conduct laboratory studies on human subjects; clinical trials at major medical centers; epidemiological studies involving large populations around the world; genomic sequencing projects; bioinformatics databases containing information about genes or proteins associated with various diseases; animal models for testing new drugs before they are tested on humans

Conclusion

The Gates Foundation is looking for innovative solutions to some of the world’s most pressing problems. If you have an idea for how to make our food system healthier and more sustainable, or if there’s an area of medical research that needs funding, then this grant might be a good fit for your organization.
